Major Food Myths Debunked

in Food

There are some food myths that have been going around for decades.  People have taken them as gospel truths.  However, there are certain food misconceptions that need to be addressed.  Here are some of the most common food myths debunked.

Fat Free Food Has No Calories

This is one of the most common food myths these days.  People naturally assume that foods that are free from fats are healthy.  This is why you will find numerous products in the market that are labeled zero fat or low fat. People would feast on these foods thinking that they won't gain weight.  Unfortunately, they tend to eat more of these low-in-fat foods.  They inadvertently consume more calories than their body can burn.  They end up gaining weight.  The next time you see foods that are low in fat, you should read the labels and check if there are sugars or other chemicals added.  You should also check the amount of calories the product contains.

Foods Rich in Protein Helps in Building Muscles

If you are trying to build muscles, do not think that eating foods with a lot of protein will help you build muscles fast.  This is not true.  Although it is said that your 30% of your diet should consist of protein, studies show that consuming additional amount of protein does not really affect muscle growth.

Get the Fresh Fruits and Salad

Fresh fruits are not always better than dried fruits.  If you are after vitamin C, then fresh fruits are better choices.  Other than that, however, fresh fruits and dried fruits have the same nutrients.  In fact, you only need five spoonfuls of dried fruits to fulfill your needs.  This is the same with canned or frozen fruits.

Accordingly, there is a misconception when it comes to salad.  Have you ever ordered salad from Pizza Hut or McDonalds?  There are some people who opt for salads when eating at fast food joints.  They don't know that these salads may not necessarily be the best choices.  Often, these salads are packed with salt or fats.  They would have been better off ordering Big Mac.

There are still a lot of food myths that are out there.  It will help if people would take the time to figure out the truth when it comes to these food beliefs.  You should definitely check out other food myths debunked.  It pays to know the truth.
